We are reading through “Make Believe”: From the newly appointed National Ambassador for Young People's Literature, a timely and intimate meditation on the ways we think about and interact with children’s literature, and what that says about our opinions of children and childhood. This is a two-part book club, meeting Monday, July 20th, and August 17th from 7:30-9:30 PM.
Open to members/non-members. Come as you are and bring your friends!
“If a child is to keep alive his inborn sense of wonder, they need the companionship of at least one adult who can share it, rediscovering with him the joy, excitement, and mystery of the world we live in.”
“Now we've come to the main reason for our low esteem for children's books: our low esteem for children. We don't recognize children's books as a real art form because we don't think children are capable of understanding art.”
“If you don’t think children’s books are real books, on some level you don’t think children are real people”
